World Book Day

For World Book week there was a competition held in school for which class could design the best door cover. We were not sure which book to choose so we decided to choose a book from the Scottish Children’s Book Awards finalists.  We had a vote on which book deserves to win it was out of: ATTACK OF THE GIANT ROBOT CHICKENS, PYRATES BOY and Precious and the mystery of the missing lion. In our class the winner was THE ATTACK OF THE GIANT ROBOT CHICKENS. So after a couple of days the door was done. This is how it looked compared to the book.

Primary 7 Retreat Day

A few weeks ago, primary 7 went to St Augustine with few other schools for a Retreat day. We had several lessons including: music, art, dance and we had a Mass at the end. It was a great experience and we all had a great time.  

 

Maths and Art

Maths and Art

We decided to combine maths and art together. We learned about Kandinsky and how he used angles in his art. We designed and painted our own abstract art while using the angles: 45, 260, 90 and 120.

Escher was also someone we learned about. He used tessellation in his art so we made tessellating birds from coloured paper and stuck them on black card.

We also learned about Wychinanki. Wychinanki is an art that uses symmetry. We folded some card and cut out half a tree then we unfolded it and stuck on some coloured paper symmetrically to decorate it.

On Thursday 12^th February, Primary 7 went to The Risk Factory. Unfortunately we cannot tell you anything about it because it is to be kept secret for next year’s P.7. Trust us, it's great.

P7 at Lagganlia

P7 at Lagganlia Good Morning Everyone Here is a brief update of our time so far at Lagganlia. The weather has been very kind to us and we have had dry and sunny but cold days so far. The children have been very good and have ate well and slept well last night. They are bright and breezy this morning and raring to go. Monday- Monday started well with an inspection of the camp, looking round the activities on site, trying out the climbing wall, orienteering and meeting with their group leaders to decide on what was their top three activities they definitely wanted to do. Finally there was just time for unpacking and bed making all before tea. For tea we had delicious steak pie, carrots and potatoes followed by raspberry cheesecake and every plate was cleared. After tea there was free time for an hour and this was followed by evening activities starting at 7.30pm - 9pm. Groups took part in either Night-Line or Scatter Course ( similar to a scavenger hunt). 9pm was supper - hot chocolate and biscuit and free time. 9.30pm bedtime 10pm lights out. Tuesday - A beautiful day, the sun was bright and shining, but some of the children were a bit tired! Maybe some didn't go straight to sleep after lights out! However they soon perked up after breakfast and found out what their activities were. In the morning groups took part in: Gorge Walking; Skiing; Abseiling; Hill Walking; Mountain Biking or Canoeing. After a substantial packed lunch there was a mix of Mountain Biking; Skiing; Gorge Walking; Hill Walking; Abseiling; Archery and Canoeing. I was delighted when the a few of the instructors came to me to say how wonderful some of the children had been and how they had been helpful and considerate to their team mates. This was extremely heartwarming to hear. , Tea time consisted of Corn on the Cob as a starter followed by either Chicken Curry with Nan Bread or Baked Potato with a choice of fillings. Again plates were cleared. There was an hour of free time and then the evening activities started with the groups swapping over from the activity they did the night before. 9pm was supper - hot chocolate/ drink  and banana cake and some free time. The feedback from the children was that everyone had enjoyed the day and their activities and were pleased with what they had achieved. 9.30pm bedtime 10pm lights out. The children were shattered and so had a very quiet night tonight and all slept well! Wednesday - Today is a glorious day and the children are all up and organised for breakfast. Tables are cleared, lunches collected and then ready for room inspection. After all that the children meet again in their groups to find out the day's activities. This morning and afternoon they are taking part in the same activities as above but the groups are rotated so that all of the children get to take part in most things. All of the activities are linked to aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence with a particular focus on Health and Wellbeing, Outdoor Education, Literacy- Listening and Talking, Mapping and Compass Reading, with the instructors using similar familiar language that the teachers use in school. Our evening meal tonight is a choice of beef burger of fish, both with chips and salad, followed by ice cream and variety of sauces. The evening activity tonight is a disco, but in fact will really be a birthday party for one of the other children with us. So they are all looking forward to this and I know they will have a great time. By bed time they will be exhausted. The groups have been gelling really well together and it's lovely to watch how they do get on with other people and to see new friendships forming. Thursday - Morning routine and breakfast. This will be followed by team meetings and then whole group feedback and awards. We will be leaving Lagganlia at approx 10am to arrive at school at approx 1.30pm. Please telephone the school beforehand just to ensure that we are not delayed. We have had a lovely time and thank you for allowing us the privilege to take your children away for a few days and to see them in a different environment. They have been great. St. Cuthbert's P7s remembers the Christmas Truce

On the final day of Term, P7s took part in a football match to honour the Christmas Truce of 1914. We were given German and British identities and enjoyed singing Silent Night in German and in English. We shook hands, introduced ourselves in our 'native' language and played a well fought game of football. Despite the rain, everyone enjoyed participating in such an important and symbolic event. Oh and by the way, the score was 0-0. A draw seemed to be an appropriate result!

 

Festive Greetings

Merry Christmas to everyone, hope you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the festive holiday. Over the past few weeks P7 have been very busy. These have been some of our highlights:

• We had our Christmas party with P6
• We saw Cinderella at the Panto
• We went to the cinema to see a French movie called 'Belle et Sebastien'
• Our class visited the National War Museum to learn about WW2
• Another thing that we have learned about is the WW1 Christmas truce
• We are preparing for a carol service
• The P1 class performed a nativity and the rest of the school sang songs

As you can see we have done lots of things so we will be glad to have our holidays and enjoy winding down and preparing for Christmas. A farwell will be needed soon because it's our last year at primary school. We all hope our last months are as good as the rest. P7 hope all your Christmas wishes come true and you have a Happy New Year.
