St. Cuthbert's P7s remembers the Christmas Truce

On the final day of Term, P7s took part in a football match to honour the Christmas Truce of 1914. We were given German and British identities and enjoyed singing Silent Night in German and in English. We shook hands, introduced ourselves in our 'native' language and played a well fought game of football. Despite the rain, everyone enjoyed participating in such an important and symbolic event. Oh and by the way, the score was 0-0. A draw seemed to be an appropriate result!

 

Festive Greetings

Merry Christmas to everyone, hope you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the festive holiday. Over the past few weeks P7 have been very busy. These have been some of our highlights:

• We had our Christmas party with P6
• We saw Cinderella at the Panto
• We went to the cinema to see a French movie called 'Belle et Sebastien'
• Our class visited the National War Museum to learn about WW2
• Another thing that we have learned about is the WW1 Christmas truce
• We are preparing for a carol service
• The P1 class performed a nativity and the rest of the school sang songs

As you can see we have done lots of things so we will be glad to have our holidays and enjoy winding down and preparing for Christmas. A farwell will be needed soon because it's our last year at primary school. We all hope our last months are as good as the rest. P7 hope all your Christmas wishes come true and you have a Happy New Year.

My War, my Family by Liam

As you may know, P7 had a museum about WW2. I, alongside Holly, Owen, Patrick, Sach and Sean worked at a station calle 'My Family, my War'. We all had family members in the war. Sean and I had a great-gran who was an evacuee. Owen's great grandad fought in Burma. Patrick's two grandads fought in the war and survived. Sacha's great grandad fought in the war and survived. I enjoyed it all very much, it was a special day and we got great feedback.

 

WW2 Rationing by Rachel

This exhibit display focussed on Rationing. People had to be inventive of what food they were given. Rationing started in 1940 and ended in 1954. Men in the army got a ration box to help them in the war. Mrs Greig baked some fabulous wartime bread for family and friends to taste. Also, we had carrot cookies and spam. For those who don't know what spam is, it is pork and ham mixed together. Most of all, I loved dressing up and doing the play and songs with the class.

 

My War Museum by Owen

This exhibit display focussed on 'My War, My Family. In the station, I created a poster on my great-grandfather who fought in WW2. On the War Museum Day, I had to explain to parents and teachers about my poster and my great-grandfather. I explained to them where he fought, what happened to him and about the medals he won.

I loved the day because it was interesting to learn about WW2 and it was fun because we got to taste 1940's food and we got to see our families.

 

 

 

My Museum Day by Abi

This display's exhibit was about Propaganda, a type of advertisement mainly shown as posters, and showed some good examples of propaganda that P7 had made. The threee "Sayings" that the propaganda was based on were: 'Dig for Victory' - encouraging people to farm for food, 'Tittle, Tattle Lost the Battle - reminding people not to talk about their plans as there could be German spies listening, and 'Make, Do and Mend' - telling people to recycle or reuse by fixing/mending everything that had been been broken. Fun fact: American propaganda slyly let on that Hitler's real name was the unpleasant sounding Snicklegruber. I loved the day; it was exciting, informative and we got sweets at the end.

 

Man your stations! By Barbara

What an experience! On 19th November, WW2 brought a small bit of life to the P7 classroom. Everyone had a station whether it was welcoming the parents in or giving them free samples. Everyone loved everything about the day. I was at the 'Take Shelter' table. I explained everything about the Anderson Shelters, gas masks, hand-made toys an lots more. My favourite part was when we were singing and I turned to the left and saw my Nana standing there singing along (she had said she was not coming so I was really shellshocked).

My station was calle "My War, My Family". There were six people at my station, each of us made colurful posters about our geat grannies and great grandads who fought for us in WW2. I learned so much and so did everyone who came to listen to our group explain the connections between our families and the war. I think our Museum was a great success as all our feedback was good.

At our Museum Day, my station focussed on WW2 food and rationing. We had lots of information on display and were handing our food from the war such as: wartime loaf, carrot cookies, and a basic meal (we could not eat that as it was for display purposes). To get your rations, you went to your nearest corner shop. Some of the brands that were around during the war can still be found today, for example Spam. One display we had showed what a ration book looked like. I think our Museum Day was a roaring success because we received good feedback.

 

My Museum Day by Johanna

I was at the Rationing station, which was packed with information and treats which parents could try. We had spam that could last 3 years; wartime loaf which contained no eggs; carrot cookies cooked by Mrs Gregg and wartime sweets such as pear drops and mints. Everyone enjoyed our station and gave great feedback. I truly enjoyed our War Museum and it was certainly our best, owing to the fact that everyone contributed and did their best.

Homefront and Propaganda

 

This exhibit display focussed on the Homefront and Propaganda. It was very interesting and educational. It was a wonderful experience learning about Dig for Victory, Propaganda and so on. It also had toys such as Scotty dogs and there were models of gas masks. I would have loved to attend!

My Museum Experience by Ibraheem

I loved the day as it was a fun time telling parents about the military and the homefront in WW2. At the military side of my station, we had an Avro Lancaster model on show. There are only two real-life examples on Earth. Plus, we had propaganda posters on show. These were used to encourage people to fight in the war. Meanwhile, at the homefront section, I was focussed on telling people about how people protected themselves during the bombing raids. There were two different types of shelters: an Anderson Shelter and a Morrison Shelter. The Morrison Shelter was used when you did not have a garden and it would protect you in case a bomb dropped on your house.

My exhibit display focussed on WW2 homework, it was amazing. In my station, my bit was to describe and tell people about the Anderson Shelters and Morrison Shelters. I especially enjoyed meeting people, dressing up as an evacuee and not forgetting our drama and songs. We literally had people in tears! I think it was the best Museum Day in the history of Museum Days!

 

What a triumph! P7 bring WW2 to life in this special Museum Day

On a wet Wednesday in November, P7 presented their Museum Showcase. The displays were well organised and professional manned by the P7 boys and girls. Parents and siblings strolled around enjoying the children regale them with tales from the war. To top off an already high-class event, the children presented a mini-drama on the evacuee experience and finished the day by singing 'We'll Meet Again' and 'The Cliffs of Dover'. Well done P7! Once again, you have made me very proud!

Poppy Day National Maths Contest - 7 Nov to 13 Nov

What fantastic news I have to report. P7 took part in the Sumdog Maths Contest which was held nationally and out of 455 classes that qualified, we came in at 4th position. I am so proud of you all. Next stop: The Edinburgh Contest!!

P7's Top Ten Highlights for week commencing 27th October

1. Science - We learned about what DNA is and we made our own DNA double helix.

2. ICT - We created a budget using Excel.

3. Literacy - We were introduced to our mystery books.

4. Engineering - We created the Flightmaster and made it fly. Jennie won the competion.

5. Art - We created WW2 silhouettes for our Blitz Art.

6. Topic - We learned about rationing and what food people ate, e.g. British apples, powdered milk and powdered egg. Miss Finn showed us a ration box of what soldiers in the British army would have today. The coolest thing was the sausage and bean casserole in a pack.

7. R.E. - We learned that October is the month of the Rosary. We also learned about the Mysteries of  the Rosary and prayed the Luminous Mystery.

8. Maths - We learned about data handling and created a bar chart in our jotters. We previously only did this in Excel in ICT.

9. Topic - We learned about Sacha's great-grandfather who survived the war but tragically was killed afterward in a plane crash. Sacha shared with us a condolence letter from Buckingham Palace and a news article.

10. Tanzanian Talk - We had a special visitor called Seraphin. We learned about how St. Cuthbert's and Kyou walk 'hand in hand' together in friendship, while making the world a better place.

The Great P7 Bake-off - A roaring success!

This morning P7 decided they would host a cake sale to raise money for Lagganlia in March. P7 have been working really hard to make their cakes.Everyone enjoyed it! All the children loved the delicious cakes P7 made.

The children were organised into 6 groups of four,with a variety of scruptious cakes on each table.Each table had a certain class to serve and a person to monitor the crowd.Every table made a great amount of money which added up to a total of £113.31.

Without the help of Miss Finn and Mrs Gregg, we wouldn't be able to achieve our goal.

              P7 Project Based Homework – World War 2

           This term: Your target is to complete at least 3 projects from the grid.

                                    You must do the one in the middle.

Research an aircraft, ship or tank that took part in WW2. Make a model, drawing or collage and don’t forget to include a description .	Create a presentation about what you would pack if you were evacuated to another place today, giving your reasons for each item.	Make a drawing, painting or collage using different materials that shows a scene from World War 2.
Design and make a game involving facts about World War 2. (board game, card game, memory game, observation game)	Create a fact-file about the life of a child during World War 2. This should contain facts about everyday life including evacuation, rationing, the Blitz.	Design a recruitment poster to encourage people to fight for their country during the War.
Make your own artefact from World War 2 – this could be a rationing book, an evacuation case, a gas mask, soldier’s helmet or a medal.	Write a fictional diary as a child during World War 2.	An idea of your own…

P7 has gone Career Crazy!

In P7, we have been exploring what we want to be when we are older. It has been fascinating to learn about different career paths and the skills and education requirements necessary. Who knew that among us there is a future Prime Minister or a toy designer? We have very high ambitions. Enjoy discovering about our future careers!

Sharon-I want to be a professional Dancer

When I grow up I want to be a professional Dancer to dance and perform for my enjoyment and for people's entertainment. I think I will be good at this job  because I started going to dance classes since I was 9 I think I should have started  at a younger age but I learn things quickly so that's not a problem for me.The type of dance styles I do are Tap, Ballet and Modern dance. I enjoy all the styles of dance but the hardest has to be Ballet.

As a dancer you have to start dancing when you are under the age of 10 or 11 because when you be a professional dancer you need to be quite young, between the age of 18-30.

As a dancer you would use movement to interpret music, tell stories and express emotion. You could dance for live performances for television film or music videos. Three things you need to be good at to be a dancer.

1. You need to go to dance classes.

2. You need to be flexible.

3. You need to be confident to perform in front of an audience.

The educational requirements you will need are a high level of training and ability. Many professional dancers train at a vocation dance school with an intensive three year degree or diploma or a one year postgraduate course.

Michael - I want to be a Computer Game Developer

When I grow up, I want to be a Computer Game Developer because it is what I am good at. On a Career Interest Assessment surprisingly the job a Computer Games Developer was there. Also in class, we went on a National Career Service website and the job involves producing games for PC, game consoles and for mobile phones.

The skills I have include: being able to fix computers if they have broke, working on my own and making my own IP address. I need to be good at computer science, software engineering, animation, graphic design, multimedia and computer games design.

The age guidance I will be aiming for is 15 - 18, a 1st or 3rd person shooter. If I don't succeed, my plan B is to be a Computer System Analyst.

The nature of my work is to develop games and make sure they work correctly, make sure the game works correctly in time and create the coding of the game.

For me to become a Game Developer I would need to have a foundation degree or a degree qualification.Three skills required are to work under pressure for the dead line, need to be good at maths and to have excellent computer skills.

Cailan - I want to be a scientist

When I grow up I want to be a research scientist to try and find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease  because my grandad has it .

I think I have the potential to undertake this job because I am good at problem solving and Maths.
I also have patience, I can carry on when I don't get the results I expect, I have a great memory, I can work with what I've got, I can concentrate well, I would also be good anylising and collecting data

I researched my job on the National Career Service and I found out that I need at least 2:1 in Science, 5 GCSEs in English, Maths and Science and at least two A levels.

Sean - I want to be a footballer

Plan A

My plan A is to be a pro footballer I think I have the skills and I really want this job.

I  work well in a team and I can score and play well. I have been scouted for 2 youth teams (Hibs and cowdenbeeth)  ,so I think I should stick at it.

I have tons of skills for this job like pace,stamina,reaction,power,streanth ect.

The nature of the game is going to be loud,long and competitive.

I need no education for this job just a really good attitude.

I do have a plan B Whitch isa football referee.

The team I want to play for Whitch is my life long dream and it's to play for Manchester United.

I hope I get this job I think I have majority of the skills required for this job.

Johanna - I want to be a Photographer

When I grow up I would like to be a photographer and run my own business. I love to try out and use different cameras, as well as travel and and see different places which I always capture with my camera.

My job would involve using different technology including cameras, computers and different programmes such as Photoshop. I would start off  as a photographer's assistant to gain experience and then become self-employed and start my own business.

To be a good photographer I would need to be able to meet deadlines, understand health and safety requirements, make people feel relaxed, be patient and concentrate and also have good eye sight. A driving licence is an essential for a photographer, especially if I want to photograph different parts of the world and share it with people who unfortunately can't see it. It would also be an advantage for me since I love travelling.

The education requirements include: A level in photography, City & Guild levels 1, 2 & 3 in photography, BTEC ND Photography, a diploma in foundation studios (art and design), BTEC HNC/HND in art and design (photography).

Rachel-I want to be a Veterinary nurse

When I grow up I want to be a Veterinary nurse to help animals and owners who are worried and nervous. I think that I would do a good job being a veterinary nurse because I am good around animals and keeping them calm while there in treatment of surgery. When I leave school I would go to University and study for 5 to 7 years because I want to have my own business. I took a survey to help me see what I would be when I'am older.

In treatment and surgery you need to help the veterinary surgeons to make sure nothing goes wrong when in treatment. Sick and injured animals need to be treated so the veterinary nurses come and make sure that they are eating probably and getting enough sleep. If the animals are sick you give the animals drugs for safety.

The skills you would need for this job is keeping the animals calm and giving them injections and X-rays to see the damage of the animals body. If the animal needs fast and quick surgery I would be a fast and quick worker. If the animal is in too much pain would have to put to sleep through the surgery.

If the animal is in way too much pain we would have to put it to sleep for the best but we would have to break the sad news to the owner of the pet.

The education requirements are ABC Certificate for animal nursing assistants and central Qualifications (CQ)

Patrick-I would like to be a Footballer

 When I grow up I want to be a professional Footballer.I want to be a footballer because I love the sport and I believe a World without Football is no World at all.I have all the all the skills required to become a footballer.

I am reliable to get to training in time and to get to a match in time.

My attitude is good I am well disciplined.But I am good in tackles so I am also powerful.I would like to end my career at Manchester United or Celtic FC.

When I retire I will become a Jockey.

Liam-I want to be a footballer

When I grow up I want to be a footballer because I have played football since I was three and I want to continue this hobby throughout  my life . If I do make it I want to start my career at Celtic and then play for manchester united and then play for Celtic to finish of my career.For this job I need to be very fit,fit enough to run for 90 mins!This  job involves a exceptional talent and you need to be great at working in a team.You need to be very competitive but in a good way.

As a footballer you need to play with a team and verse other teams from your league from different leagues from all over the world!If you are a footballer you can not be scared of planes because if u play for a team in Scotland and you have to play a team in Spain if you want to play in that match you need to travel by a private jet.Being a footballer is hard work because you have to turn up for training 2 times every week.if you  are a footballer you need to get advice if you want to go on a diet and lifestyle you from a doctor.

The skills you need are you need to be healthy,fit and you need great stamina.The education requirements are well then are actually nothing to do with education in football apart from subjects and they are maths,writing and spelling.

Holly-I want to be a Member of Parliament

When I grow up I want to be a Member of Parliament, because I've always wanted to be a representative of society. To be a Member of Parliament, you will need skills and qualifications such as: attending parliament sessions,being able to ask and answer questions during debates.You need to have the ability to work under pressure and an interest of studying the economy.The job of a Member of Parliament involves: giving interviews to the media, making speeches, studying reports and debating.

You need three important skills to succeed as a Member of Parliament, you need determination and commitment, strong political believes  and to be able to persuade and motivate people.

The education requirement you will need is to be confident in your English and speaking out loud and its  recommended to have a job before becoming a Member of Parliament because you can use it as a qualification. In class, I have taken a survey and the results were that I was an Enterpriser who is someone who likes to take risks, enjoys making decisions, selling things, leading people and politics. After taking this survey hopefully it will guide me to my dream job.

Alessia-I want to be a criminal lawyer

When I am older I would like to be a criminal lawyer. I would like to be a criminal lawyer because I love to explore a wide range of ideas, to solve problems and I also think this could be a very exciting job at some points. In school, I did a career interest assessment and I was classed as an investigator which links to this job.

Also in class, I researched about this job and it would involve advising clients about law and act on their behalf in legal matters. In this job, I would also have to be strong spoken and written communication and skills. This job will also include me appearing in court, preparing people and papers for court and keeping financial records and much more. The 3 main skills that are required are: good at writing, good at time keeping and  being outspoken. The last thing is education requirements which include:

• completing a qualifying law degree, followed by the legal practise course (LPC)
• complete a non law degree then take a common professional examination (CPE) or graduate diploma in law (GDL) conversation course followed by LPC.

This is what I want to be when I am older.

Ellie - I want to be an Animal Care Worker

When I grow up I would like to be an Animal Care Worker. The reason for this is I love to help animals and make them feel better. I really love animals and keep calm I hard situations. My pets are really well looked after and loved a lot. I can't explain how much I love animals the thought of being able to spend my life with them makes me really happy. This job is perfect for me because I love animals and love to make them feel better but I really don't like hurting them. I never moan about having to clean out my pets or give them cuddles or sit with them for the whole day. I would love the feeling of getting home and knowing that I helped more animals get through another day.

For this job you need these educational requirements: level 3 certificate in kennel and cattery management, level 3 diploma in animal management, a foundation in animal health and welfare.There are other aspects of learning that will help me in my dream job but I have chosen the ones that I feel will be most needed in this job.

In class we researched our dream jobs and found out lots of useful information.

After taking a Career Interest Assessment, I realised they I could be lots of things, but I still love the idea of being an Animal care worker and helping animals on a daily basis.

Abi - I want to be a Computer Games Developer

When I grow up I want to be a Computer Games Developer and make loads of fun new games. I want to be a Games Developer because I love playing computer games and think I could make excellent new games. Before I knew I wanted to be a Games Developer, my dad suggested it to me when I pointed out what could make a game I play better.

I have an account on a website called "Splodder" that allows me to design a pixelated platform game, and even though I don't have to program anything, I have some in making the layout of a game. I believe this would help my chances of getting this job.

In class, when I took an assessment, I was classed as a detailer, which is linked to this job. I also searched up this job on the National Career Service website, and understand that for this job I will have to have excellent computer skills, need to be good at designing/animating and bringing characters and scenery to life, and have patience and attention to detail. I need a wide knowledge and understanding of games and creativity and imagination, and I believe I have both. This job also involves being able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and I am comfortable with spending most of my time at a computer. I will need to take classes for Software Engineering, Animation and Graphics Design.

Ibraheem- I want to be a game tester

When I am older I desire to be a game tester. The reason why I want to be a game tester is because I will do this for a year to earn money and preview games for my gaming You Tube channel and I also want to do it because I want to make sure that game developers can perfect their games.

While we were at school we did a evaluation about our job interests and how well we are at it. I successfully found out that my job interest was secured but anything can happen. I think I will do well in this job because I am on my PC gaming non stop for 7 hours at least. Also I am an IT technician at school.

At my possible future job I will have to be checking spelling mistakes inside the game,also I will have to find glitches inside the game and bugs.

My education requirements will be that I will have to get a degree in game design.

After I retire from this job which will be in a year I will take all the money I have earned in that year and spend it on a Computer ,microphone ,Gaming chair and Headphones for my You Tube channel. Then I will earn money of my channel from ads.

I really wish I can get this job but nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.

Jennie-I want to be a Nurse

When I grow up I want to be a Nurse to help sick and injured people. I think that I would do a great job while being a Nurse because I am good around blood and would be able to keep people calm. After I finish school I am going to go to College and study to be a Nurse. I undertook a survey to help to get an idea of what i could be when I'm older, I was in the category of Investigators. It said Investigators are observant and explore a wide range of ideas to solve problems. One of the jobs that was included in that category was a Nurse and I was pleased to have seen that my dream job was there.

In class, I researched my job on the National Career Service website and discovered more information about my job. My job involves checking patients progress and agree what care to give them and checking temeratures and measuring blood pressure. Also I learned what I need to be good at to be a Nurse which is you have to be patient and understanding and you have to be able to stay calm under pressure.

The exact nature of my job is helping and caring for people, Using high technology medical equipment and cleaning and dressing wounds. Some of the skills you need to have are patience and empathy, a genuine desire to help people and physical and mental stamina. The last thing was Education Requirements: You need to complete an approved course. You would need proof of English and Maths skills. At least 5 GCSE's including English, Maths and Science and finally 2 or 3 A levels, with at least one health related subject.

This is what I want to be when I'm older and I hope that if I work really hard I will get there one day.

Sport's Day Review

On the 6th of June 2014 we had Sport's day at St. Cuthbert's R.C. Primary.

I was a team captain with Andrew.  We were team 2 for St. Columba's.   I had such fun.
I liked that I could encourage my team mates to do their best to earn points for our house team.  We played games at the rest station.

My favourite station was the ice cream one AND  the long jump as we got lots of points for St. Columba's.  I'm quite sad this was my last Sport's day as I really do enjoy it.

After all our stations we had flat races for each class boys and girls separately.

Then the time we had been waiting for Time to announce the house group that won...……St.Teresa's!  My house group came first!  It was the best end to the day I would have hoped for!

Sport's day

The weather was great, the equipment was ready and it was sports day. Today was going to be a good day.

Me and Kyle were team leaders of team one in St. Margaret's. As we read the list of team members in our group we figured that our team was very good therefore we had quite high hopes of winning. As soon as all our team was collected; Mrs Taylor called out each house group individually to go to their station and prepare.

We ended up at station seven, the egg and spoon race. I enjoyed that station a lot and all our team members were fairly good at it. Afterwards we moved to the long jump. That was the station were we scored the most points. We were ecstatic with our score of nine hundred and ninety.

Luckily on the dress up station me and Kyle were told not to dress up but instead to help our team. It was a great relief to know that we don't have to run around looking daft.

Finally at the end of sports day we found out the winners. Unfortunately for St. Margaret's we came last then St. Columba's came third, St. Andrew's came second and St. Theresa's came first. Sports day was really great and I will miss it a lot in St. Cuthbert's.

Sport's Day

On Friday 6th June we had Sport's Day and I was one of the team leaders with Dylan for St Theresa's house group and we were team one. 

The first station was the ice cream but the ice cream wasn't there so we had to wait until we had finished all of the the stations to get the ice cream.

The second station was the rest stop and we got to sit and enjoy the sun before we started any of the proper races.  After we had finished all of the stations it was the flat races.

When it came to the flat races it went in order starting with primary 1 then ending with primary 7. When it came to primary 7 I was so nervous but I just ran for it and I won the race.

After the flat races,  Mrs Taylor called out all of the winners from each class and they came out and got their certificate and got a their photo taken by Mrs. Gregg.  Once all the certificates were handed out, Mrs Taylor called out who had won on the points and in 4th place it was St. Margaret's, 3rd place it was St. Colmba's, 2nd place it was St. Andrew's and in 1st place it was St. Theresa's.

After winning the flat race I felt proud and winning on the points I felt overwhelmed.

Sports Day Review

On the 6th of June 2014 we had a perfect sports day. I loved being a leader of one of St.Margarets teams. First we started at the eighth station:The long jump, I didn't particularly like it but my team loved it.

My favourite station was the ice-cream station.Mmmm!

I loved all of sports day including the leadership skills I had to use.

I didn't do any activities because I had a sore leg.

I'll never forget primary 1 we were all as cute as kittens,

I'll never forget the nativity (Mary's knitting),

I'll never forget primary 2 we always played with Bouncing Ben the puppet,

Pop! Went the popcorn as we ate it during the puppet show,

I'll never forget primary 3 when we went to the Water of Leith,

And we moved to the bigger playground,

I'll never forget primary 4 when we had our marvellous, mouthwatering pizza at Dominoes,

The pencil awaited me as I wrote and drew with it,

I'll never forget primary 5 where we started to learn French,

And joined athletics,

I'll never forget primary 6 I definitely enjoyed all the shocks in the risk factory,

Not forgetting St.Columba's won at sports day,

 

Last but not the least I will always treasure the days in primary 7,

                                 I'll never forget my first day of school,

                 The Nativity,New friends and my toy pony.

               In primary 2 it was a fun year ,More friends

                                              And fun .

               Primary 3, The Water of Leith so cool and fun,

                     Unfortunately it was raining , no sun.

                       Dominos in Primary 4 so yummy

                   It was more fun because it was sunny.

 

                       We joined athletics in P5

                      It was the best I felt so alive

             

                In P6 we went to the risk factory.

          It was fun but I can't tell you what happened!

                 Lagganlia in P7 the best of them all!

         But now we have to go.. Like a bird and their nest.

Mystery

BANG!  I heard a loud noise in the woods.  My dog got startled and ran away.  I shouted, "Paddy!Paddy!"  I got no response so I ran frantically shouting his name over and over...then I stopped and I stared.  In front of me  I saw a little house or what was left of it, but it was out of the ordinary as it had large majestic trees sprouting out the top of it.  It had no doors and it was made out of stone bricks.  There were leaves trailing down the walls, moss was growing in-between the bricks.  The flowers made the air smell nice and fresh.

Abandoned

Debris littered the ground, bullet shells and shards of glass glinted in the dim light of the fast fading sun.  As I walked down the path of cracked flag stones I became more and more apprehensive but I forced myself onward.  It had been years since I had been back but I could still remember every twist, turn, passage and path... or at least how it used to be.  The seemingly endless meadow of pansies and tulips had disappeared and in it's place a patch of dirt and sand was left as was what used to be a beautiful garden of fountains and mazes.  Seeing this I hoped the house had been the mainly protected point (but secretly I braced myself for the horribly inevitable truth).  As I turned the bend that truth was realised; what had happened here?  Ivy and weeds draped the once great house and nearly succeeded in hiding the broken windows and empty rooms from my tear-filled eyes.  This was my home ... And I had destroyed it!

The object came closer every second, a shadow growing bigger and bigger, and then it crashed. It made a gigantic crater that excavated the ground up onto the surface.  A creature not known yet unto  this earth lay flat and motionless on the cooling rock, and then it awoke.  It looked about searching for the thing it neaded: Life...

I am an orphan.  I was asleep when it happened.  When the explosion happened.  I woke up to screaming and terror.  I have no idea what happened.  The plants and trees used to be bright and colourful and the  ferris wheel used to work. The place was full of people and laughter.  Well it used to be.

African Art

 A few weeks ago we created some paintings with an African sunset and a wild African animal silhouette.

"First we started off by painting the sunset using normal poster paint on a plain background.  While we were waiting for the paint to dry, we drew some silhouettes of African animals and hills on black sugar paper and cut around these outlines.  We then stuck these onto our settings.  I really enjoyed this art lesson linked to our Commonwealth topic on Africa."  Alannah
