My Museum Experience by Emma

                              Museum of Flight

On Thursday 19th of November primary 7 went on a trip to the Museum of Fight to find out more about the RAF during World War 2. After all our hard work on fundraising primary 7 had enough money to pay for the coach. When we saw the Concorde all of our mouths were wide open with shock, none of us had ever seen a plane so big! We found out that Britain was very good at capturing planes so that is why there was quite a lot of German  planes there. We all especially liked a plane called the Comet. The wheels would drop off when the plane was in the sky so when it landed it would bounce on the ground. Primary 7 thoroughly enjoyed it and we would all love to go back.

Primary 7's Experience at The National Flight Museum by Oliwia

On Thursday 19th November Primary 7 went to 'The National Museum of Flight' at East Fortune. First when we entered the museum we saw the 'Concorde'! I was really shocked to see it and my first words were 'wow'! We got to go on the 'Concorde' and it was amazing but the windows on it are really small! A couple hours later we saw the Nazi (German) plane which is called 'The Comet'. When the Comet took off it dropped of its wheels which made it really dangerous when the pilot was landing. We also got to see different clothes that were used in the war. Some of the suits are very heavy as they are made of sheepskin and leather. East Fortune was used for training not flying/landing planes. East Fortune was also far away from the big cities and close to sea for submarines. There were also blast shelters around the museum. The blast shelters were shaped like a hill and used for going into them when a bomb was dropping.

P7 take to the skies in the Museum of Flight

After fundraising for the coach, P7 finally made the trip to Museum of Flight to learn about flying with the RAF in WW2. We also had the opportunity to find out about the Concorde and explore the inside of one!

 

 

Jerry “National Flight of Museum had loads of information. Seeing the Concorde for the first time was amazing. Another highlight for me has to be learning about WW1 and WW2 aircraft.”

 

Keira – “I loved the National Museum of Flight because I got to go on the Concorde for the first time. Fantastic Flight was great because there were lots of games inside, e.g. learning about air pressure and how it works.”

 

Jude “I really enjoyed it because I love history and I didn’t know much about military history. Also, getting to see not just aircraft, but seeing bombs, rockets, and handling objects from WW2, e.g. a pilot’s bomber jacket”. 

Sana “My first impression was ‘wow’!!! I was speechless because of how big the Concorde was. Seeing all the WW2 planes brought history to life.

Finn “The experience was amazing because I learned lots more facts about WW2 aircraft. My favourite part was when I was in the Simulator for the R34 and safely landed the airship.”

 

Oliwia “I really enjoyed it because I really like history and I learned a lot of facts about the aircraft such as the RAF and what the pilot wore when flying, i.e. a heavy sheepskin and leather jacket.”  

 

Sipun “Going to the Museum provided me with a great experience as I got to see some WW2 aircraft and learned more about them. Did you know that when the Nazi plane The Comet took off, the wheels dropped off so it bounced off the ground which was highly dangerous. The pilot was sitting directly over the engine.”

Finlay “I thought that the Museum was fascinating because it was my first time ever on the Concorde. Also I learned about WW1 and WW2 such as the aircraft.

Emily “I was absolutely thrilled to go to the Museum because it was a bit of history. Every single plane represented a fragment of what has happened in the past. It was amazing being learning about how technology has developed since early flying days in the early 20^th century.”

Lee “I enjoyed it because I learned about planes like the Concorde. Did you know that the Concorde flew twice the speed of sound.It travelled 1380mph and it took only 3 hours to fly from London to New York.”



P7 visit the National Records of Scotland

P7 took a trip to the National Records of Scotland to learn about how WW2 impacted 2 streets in Glasgow, in particular Baker St and Ingleston St. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn about how records are kept and how we can discover information about individual people and places.

Primary sevens busy week

Not only did we have two hours of P.E but we also had a taster  session of the Triathlon Scotland club and the Cluster Legacy games at St. Augustines so as you can probably tell Primary Seven had a very busy week.

On Tuesday the 25th of August we had our Triathlon Scotland club taster which involved  a game in which you had to try and get your shoes on as fast as you can and then get back to the line before everyone else.We also played a game that was very similar but instead of shoes you had to put on a bike helmet and belt  then run to the end of the field with a bike, run back to the middle of the field take the stuff of and go back to your team. Last of all we had to go in and out of the cones running with a bike in a race against the other teams which we all enjoyed doing because it was very active and much better than sitting down in class.

Then on Thursday the 27th of August we had the Cluster games at St. Augustines which was definitely the highlight of our week . We were all split up into Commonwealth countries there was South Africa, Wales, Scotland, England,  Figi,  Jamaica, Cameroon and New Zealand. There was also  different stations you competed in your teams like tug of war, speed jumping, long jump, shot put, races, and last of all a relay race. All the scores were added up and the winning countries were New Zealand in third place,South Africa in second place  and Wales in first place but unfortunatly only the team that came first got a medal though it is all about  taking part and having fun which everyone did.











A Service of Rembrance by Emily

Since the start of term we have done many other fun and educational activities such as our World War II topic which we have not long since started. We started to read a book called the Silver Sword its a book on World War II, it is not all not true but there is a little bit that is true. We have done some activities based on the book like summaries and character descriptions.

In our World War II topic we also made our own memorial service for those who fought in World War II we had someone read a chapter from the Bible (Romans 8: 31-29) and the we all lit candles to remember those who died so that we could live. After we had another two people read the poem, An Ode Of Remembrance and then blew out the candles and finished our class memorial service.

As well as these two topics we have also done the interviews for p7 jobs (eccept P1 buddies) such as library assistant, assembly monitor and so on. We wrote letters of application and filled in forums and then we did interviews with Mrs Lorry. P1 buddies are still to be interviewed.

Our Class Charter by Emily

The new p7 class, as well as the rest of the school have been busy at work with our class charters and learning about our rights and responsibilities. In the P7 class we matched right to the responsibilities that go with them. We also looked at U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. Afterward, we chose the rights that are most relatable to our classroom, e.g. You have the right to a good quality education. Next we wrote our own responsibility to go with the rights we chose, the one we did for the example of a right  The one we used for the example I just gave was, I will try my best and ensure I do not take it for granted. After we had made our class charter, we made a power point on it and presented it in assembly and our class charter was complete.

WW2 by Finn

We started our WW2 topic by doing a KWL grid. We wrote down what we know and what we want to know.

Here are some things we know:

• The war started in 1939 on the 3rd of September and it finished on the 18th of August 1945.

• The amount of people killed during the war was 72 million, 13 million of them were killed in camps.

• Also Hitler was in charge of Germany and Winston Churchill was in charge of Britain.

That was what we knew and this is what we want to learn:

• We want to learn about the children during the war.

•  What was the cause of the war.

•  Also how many countries fought during the war.

P7 is looking forward to an action-packed year of learning and preparing for our transition to High School Year. We'll have fun along the way but we'll work hard and as always will do our best.

Trip To Scottish Parliament

As the Scottish Parliament is our topic for this term, we went there on Monday to learn more about it. We had a tour around the Parliament and we were told about the history and how it Parliament is the way it is now.

Last Tuesday Primary 6 and 7 came together and had a Drug awareness workshop with a charity called NacoNon. We all learned a lot about drugs and alcohol and we made a poster to show what we learned. To learn more go to:

Home Economics

Home Economics

For the past few weeks we have been going to St Augustine to do Home Economics. Many of the primary 7s don’t know how to cook so this has been a great opportunity not only to get to know the high school but also to gain some new skills. We have made Fruit Salad and Banana Buns. Next week we will be making wraps!

World Book Day

World Book Day

For World Book week there was a competition held in school for which class could design the best door cover. We were not sure which book to choose so we decided to choose a book from the Scottish Children’s Book Awards finalists.  We had a vote on which book deserves to win it was out of: ATTACK OF THE GIANT ROBOT CHICKENS, PYRATES BOY and Precious and the mystery of the missing lion. In our class the winner was THE ATTACK OF THE GIANT ROBOT CHICKENS. So after a couple of days the door was done. This is how it looked compared to the book.

A few weeks ago, primary 7 went to St Augustine with few other schools for a Retreat day. We had several lessons including: music, art, dance and we had a Mass at the end. It was a great experience and we all had a great time.
